Portable barcode printers are usually even smaller then desktop barcode printers.  They are designed more for convenience and portability more than volume.  They almost always run on batteries and must be charged in between uses.   Typically a portable printer would hold far less labels on a roll and would almost always use thermal direct paper.  TEC portable printers are designed with rugged reliability in mind as well as small size and convenience.  You see an example of Toshiba Portable printer every time you see a FEDEX driver.  All FEDEX drivers carry a portable printer build by Toshiba TEC.
